- DeSales Fundraiser for Haiti

GENEVA – Despite their school’s economic problems, the students of DeSales high school found the time and compassion to think of others in need.

DeSales sophomore Atik Ahamad of Waterloo spearheaded a fundraiser for the people of Haiti with the support of Principal Gerald Macaluso,.

“I know our school needs money, but the kids in Haiti really need help,” Ahmad said. “We just wanted to do what we could.”

They put jars in each classroom to collect students’ pocket change, The students also held a dress-down day where students had to contribute $2.00 to dress down or not wear the uniform.

The students raised $1,000 which they presented to Red Cross staff member Sarah Rowe, Assistant Executive Director.

“We are so grateful to the DeSales students who took time from their own fund raising to help others in need,” said Rowe. “They are a shining example of the real spirit of compassion and giving.”
